Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

This Sunday, September 2, I'll be attending the "Adult Discussion Group" at the UU Church of Urbana. I've been attending this group for a few years now, and they're a wonderful bunch of people, even if they tend to focus more than a fair share of their spiritual contemplation into the question, "How do we stop the Iraq War?" It's a noble question, to be sure, but I often feel like they let the soap opera of politics overwhelm their thoughts, at the expense of getting to know each other and sharing the smaller personal dramas that are important to no one except us.

That said, it's not the topics so much as the people that keep drawing me back. This group has been the place where I've met most of the characters in my own recent personal dramas, and I'm happy to count an increasing number of them as friends. So I roll out of bed and trundle over to church whenever I can, to say hello to the people I love and see how their week's been. It's well worth suffering through a discussion on the evils of firearms to see them.

The discussion group is at 10am in the library, off of the main fellowship hall. It's scheduled between the two worship services; this week's sermon will be presented by Rev. Axel and is called "Liberally Religious." I'll probably not stick around for the service, though I might meet back up with folks for lunch afterward.

The following Sunday, September 9th, at 1pm, I'll be hosting the "Open Mic" worship service at the Channing-Murray Foundation. I'll be writing a longer post soon about the awesomeness that is "Open Mic" worship, but I just wanted to get the date out there.

Whoever you are out there, reading this, it'd be great to see you at either of these events. I'll have my Chalice & Crossbones buttons on hand, so not only will you be able to meet fellow pirates, you'll also be able to plunder some booty. Hope to see some new faces there! Yarrr!
